A Study on the Response Characteristics of 'Person in the Rain (PITR)' Drawing Test based on the Acculturative Stress of Vietnamese International Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the response characteristics of 'Person in the rain (PITR)' drawing test based on the acculturative stress of Vietnamese international students, to find out the applicability of the PITR drawing test as a psychological assessment tool in assessing the cultural adaptation stress of Vietnamese international students. For this purpose, 206 Vietnamese international students from A university in Gyeonggi province were surveyed, using acculturative stress scale and PITR drawing test as measurement tools. For data analysis, the upper and lower groups of acculturative stress score were presented as frequency and percentages, and t-test was conducted to see if there are differences in response characteristics in the stress and coping resource category of the PITR drawing test. The results of the study are as follows. First, the response characteristics of the stress area of the PITR drawing test based on the acculturative stress of Vietnamese international students, showed significant differences in the shape of rain, the contact between the rain and clouds, the number of lightning, and the area of puddles categories between the upper and lower groups of acculturative stress. Second, the response characteristics of the coping resource area of the PITR drawing test based on the degree of acculturative stress on Vietnamese international students showed significant differences in the appropriateness of indirect protective materials and facial feature categories between the upper and lower groups of acculturative stress. In conclusion, the study suggests the applicability of the PITR drawing test as a tool to identify the degree of acculturative stress of Vietnamese international students.
